Tucked away in a corner of Seething Airfield are a couple of 'aircraft' which require no runways and can take off in any weather. They're a lot cheaper to operate as well! We are of course talking about flight simulators.
The first, based on a Cessna 172, utilises specially designed instruments to mimic those found in its flying counterpart. It can be used by members to practice instrument flying and provides new student pilots with an introduction to the basic layout of aircraft instruments and aerodynamics.
The second simulator fits within the salvaged cockpit of an Enstrom helicopter and utilises the aircrafts original stick, pedals and collective. This set up is designed more with entertainment in mind and can be used with aircraft of all types.
A projection system provides the main display for one of the simulators (currently the 172) showing photographic scenery in quite a realistic fashion.
The simulators are managed by a small group of social members at the club.
If you are interested in Flight Simulators or would like to join the group you can find more information at the airfield's web site: www.seething-airfield.com/sim
